Oscar Scherer SP (Dec 23 - 28)

We are celebrating Christmas here with Joan's brother Skip and his wife Shirley. We will be joined on Christmas day by cousins Dave and wife Marty, and Pam. We plan to get in some kayaking and fishing and a lot of eating. We are hoping the weather holds up for us.
Christmas Eve - We and Skip took our kayaks out in the channel here and headed out towards the Gulf. We fished and paddled for about three hours, but Skip was the only one who caught anything. He landed a nice, but too small to keep, redfish. J & J saw a little action and heard some promising reports, but came back empty. The weather, although windy, was great.
Christmas Day - Merry Christmas. The day started quite cool, with lows in the forties, but warmed up quickly. Preparations soon began for afternoon dinner.
The steak, chicken, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, zucchini bread, peas/carrots, and peach cobbler w/vanilla ice cream were wonderful, only exceeded by the great company. The weather also cooperated, but deteriorated overnight.

Withlacoochee River Kayaking (Dec 3)

The following was an email send by Faye & Ray

"

The 9-mile paddle on the Withlacoochee turned out to be a very interesting trip - Ray had found some info regarding this area - we had a map of the river - we also had info from a kayak rental place - indicating that it was a 3+ hour paddle - so we decided since we were all experience paddlers we could do that without any problem - there were 5 hardy paddlers - John & Joan came up - our friend John R and the 2 of us - it was cold in the morning but warmed up nicely when we hit the water - we did a shuddle - since we were going to have lunch at a restaurant by the US 41 bridge. - We left at 10:50 - the river is beautiful - there was not much traffic - we paddled and paddled - finally saw a boat - how much longer to the bridge - oh about 5 miles - well we had already gone 5+ miles - Ray had a very important homeowners meeting at 4:00 (no problem getting to that) John & Joan had plans early in the evening - (no problem) - 2:30 we were still on the river and not sure just how much longer we had to go. FINALLY, we arrived at the restaurant (take out place) at 3:45 - John & Joan were going to miss their dinner engagements and Ray was going to be late for his meeting. We found out later that the 9 mile trip was a 15 mile trip - BUT it was beautiful!!!

Oh, yeah, on the drive home we found out that Ray's Homeowner's meeting had been cancelled.
